Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD)

Many dogs with this will respond to medication. Some have had success with acupuncture as well. Some do not respond well so have the option of surgery.
There is a new test that helps breeders to breed away from the mutation that predisposes them to it. For the overall health of the breed, this must be weaned out slowly. Genetics are quite complicated. Feel free to discuss this with your breeder.
It is wise to help not let your pet jump off furniture or out of vehicles. Stairs or a ramp area good options. This is best for all even if they don’t have a predisposition for IVDD. It is also a very good idea to have pet insurance.
